Creating a Will as Part of an Estate Plan
Wills are the most common estate planning tool. Most people are familiar with them. However, there are a lot of misconceptions about creating a will. First of all, many people believe that it costs a lot of money to draft a will. This is simply not true. Second, people often think that a will is the only thing they need in their estate plan. In reality, a will may not be enough.
When you choose the Davis Law Firm, you will work directly with experienced attorney Nathan Davis. You will receive customized guidance to help you create a will and build an estate plan that can achieve your goals.
What Does a Will Accomplish?
Wills allow a person to direct how assets will be transferred after death. They also allow a person to provide guidance regarding a variety of other issues, such as the care of minor children.
What wills don't accomplish is perhaps a more important issue. They don't apply to situations in which a person becomes disabled and unable to make decisions on their own. They also have a troublesome weakness in that they must pass through the probate process. This can take time, during which assets may be out of reach for loved ones.
Our law firm has one goal when it comes to wills: To incorporate them into an estate plan that can truly achieve what the client wants it to achieve. We believe that, in most cases, wills should be complimented by other estate planning tools. We take great care to only do what is right for each individual client.
At a minimum, an Estate Plan should include a Will, a Living Will, a Health Care Power of Attorney and usually a Durable Power of Attorney.
